I love my job. I’ve been drilling water wells for over twenty years now and it still amazes me that we can drill a hole in the ground and get good water for drinking and irrigation. I always feel like I’m doing something important because water is something that we absolutely must have to survive.

If you live in an area where a public water supply is not available then the water well driller is a very important person to you. I am ever more aware that the privilege of being your water well driller carries with it the responsibility of doing the very best job I can do. I know that in return for doing the very best I can do, you will tell your friends and neighbors about my business, and I thank you for that.

In some areas it is necessary, or preferable, to install a shallow well system. In other areas it is necessary, or preferable, to install a deep well. We do both. We have the equipment needed to install shallow wells and deep wells up to 650’ deep for residential, industrial, and commercial applications. We know you will appreciate our hard work, professional approach, and dedication to quality craftsmanship.

Be sure to read about maintaining your water well system and about how to guarantee that your water is safe and sanitary for your family. Thank you for considering Howard Water Systems. We look forward to working with you on the installation of your water well or water treatment system.

We invest the extra time required to mount the pump and/or tank and pressure switch in a garage or other suitable location whenever the situation allows. This protects the water system equipment from extreme weather, dust, and humidity. This is equally important for any water treatment equipment. We do custom work for custom construction projects. We've installed hundreds of water well systems at new home construction sites all over the lowcountry. Our clients include homeowners, builders, realtors, property management companies, government entities, mobile home and modular dealers, and lending institutions. We can answer your questions or provide important advice about water systems requirements, permitting, and water quality.

You'll find we have a professional approach and we're very easy to work with. If you're a contractor or having a water well installed at a property other than your own, we promise to represent you well when dealing with your client. We know that in many cases our work is a direct reflection on your work. In the end we want everyone involved to be proud of the work we did.

Our customer and very good friend Wendy Smith enjoys all natural, chlorine free well water at home. Wendy is the wife of Robert Smith and mother of her equally charming daughter Reagan. We installed a water well system with filtration for the Smiths in 2007.

Many or most water systems are installed in a small pump house. This particular system has two pumps for two separate homes on this lot. Additional water storage tanks and a Watts NF-10 Iron and Sulfur Filter are installed in a storage building nearby. This system also has a well and pellet chlorinator installed.

During freezing weather the pumps are covered with plastic and the lamp you see here easily prevents damage to the pumps due to freezing.

We often install water well systems on vacant lots or in the middle of a field prior to home construction or the placement of a mobile home. Electricity is not required. This 90' water well system will supply two mobile homes and outdoor irrigation with abundant pressure. The owner constructed a nice pump house after we completed our work. Notice one ball valve each for two homes and a separate valve for the garden. This is the Franklin-Schaffer© 1 Horse Power jet pump that we think is the best jet pump in the industry.

It is ideal when we work with the builder before the garage slab is poured so that no pipes are exposed. When these elevated homes were completed the water system equipment was well protected from the elements and easy to access. It is important to keep the area around your water system equipment clean and free of dust, sand, and spider webs. In this situation all of the equipment should last many years.

We do a lot of mobile homes and we don't think anyone does them better. Some of the best mobile home dealers in the area use us for their water well installations. We take the time to do a professional, custom installation for all of our customers. On many of our mobile home installations we mount the pump and/or tank and pressure switch under the home or under the porch. This makes protecting the pump easier and less expensive than building a pump house. And it looks much nicer than having a pump house out in the yard.

The well can be installed a long distance from the location of the pump and/or tank and pressure switch. In this particular application a pump house would have been out of place and would have looked poorly on this very nice rural street corner. In many rural areas every house has an old raggy pump house stuck out in the yard that in most cases doesn't protect the water system from freezing or intense heat. And all those old pump houses don't add to the neighborhood much. So we do many, or most, mobile home installations this way.

Many of our irrigation well customers call or send us a note (sometimes years after the installation) to tell us how glad they are that they had us install their water well system and how many thousands of dollars they have saved. We're proud that much (or most) of our work comes by way of customer referral.

Many of our customers have a water well system installed for their lawn or garden and depend on it
(along with their generator) for a good back-up potable water source in the event of a major interruption
of water service, such as Hurricane Hugo.

An irrigation well system takes up little space, requires little maintenance, and cost just pennies to operate when compared to the cost of city water. In addition, using well water is the environmentally sensitive alternative and well water is better for your lawn and plants.

We install water well systems in the most difficult situations. A pond on the left side of this home dictated that the well had to be installed on the right side of the walkway. The pump needed to be installed on the left of the porch. A pipe runs from the water well under the walk to the opposite side of the home. We take great care to minimize any disturbance to a nicely landscaped yard.
As indicated by these before and after photos you simply cannot tell that we installed a water well system at this beautiful home.

The pump is completely hidden by the landscape in the exact location of a previously installed backflow device which we removed, saving yet more money. We also ran the electrical for this pump in conduit to the rear of the home. The owner of this home was paying hundreds of dollars monthly for water to supply the automatic irrigation system.

The water well for this landscape installation is located just outside of the storage shed. No pipes are visible. The pump and tank are neatly installed inside the building under the corner of a work bench where it can easily be enclosed in a simple cabinet or left as is. A pump in a location like this should last 30 or 40 years if cleaned occasionally and protected from freezing. The actual water well should yield good water for many generations.

Large landscapes use a lot of water. This particular home has city water but the cost of running the automatic irrigation on city water would simply be cost prohibitive… and wasteful. The actual water well for this installation is located about 140' from the pump due to the location of the septic system. After our work was finished the builder replaced the lattice work on hinges so the pump has excellent access but is completely concealed. With a piece of treated plywood screwed to the bottom of the A/C platform, the pump will be protected from rain and is in the shade where it will get plenty of fresh air during warm weather. In the winter the pump can simply be covered with a tarp or piece of plastic and the lamp you see here will easily protect it from freezing. This is the Franklin-Schaffer® 1 Horse Power jet pump that we think is the best jet pump in the industry. This system yields enough water to fully irrigate this huge yard and at least one more the same size. The raw water quality happens to be very good too. A Watts© Filox Media Filter could easily be installed right next to this pump under the A/C unit and provide better quality, chlorine free water to this home than city water. The owner could easily call the water company and tell them to come pull the meter and close the account.

Pitcher Pumps

We still install pitcher pumps. Our customers have a pitcher pump installed for irrigation, a backup water source in the event of a power failure, or just because they want the kids to be able to pump on one like they did when they were kids. We've installed a number of pitcher pumps in locations where there is no power such as a hunting club or getaway garden. We can install a pitcher pump on any shallow well with or without an electric pump. We welcome calls from Glen Beckers, 2012ers, the extremely fundamental, and those who are seriously pessimistic about our government or economy. Give us a call. Don't be caught without water if the grid goes down!

This is a 300+ foot deep well with a 4" casing. A 20 gallon bladder tank is installed out of sight behind the A/C unit and the well casing is concealed and protected by a rock pump cover. This well supplies irrigation water for a pond at this well landscaped physician's office. We install shallow residential irrigation wells and 4" or 6" irrigation wells for residential applications and large or small commercial requirements.

We've had the opportunity to install water well systems for irrigation at a number of schools for the local school district. In this particular application a deep well could not be installed due to salt water intrusion so we installed duel Gould's© J+ jet pumps to supply the volume of water needed. These pumps with three-phase motors were neatly installed in the mechanical room where they are protected from the elements. The pumps have three-phase control boxes with overload protection.

This installation is at a local hospital and supplies irrigation water for a large pond. This is a Gould's© Irrigator Centrifugal pump. We specified and installed the hinged fiberglass cover to protect the pump from freezing. Note the vents that we installed at top and bottom to allow proper ventilation for motor cooling during summer weather. The simple lamp you see on the pump will supply ample heat to prevent damage to the pump during freezing temperatures.

Water Furnace Logo

We install water wells for geo-thermal applications and we do geo-thermal drilling for installation of closed loop systems. We are certified WaterFurnace ® FUSION © technologist meaning we have the tools and training necessary to professionally couple and install your polyethylene loop system. We also have trenching equipment so we can drill the wells, install the loop, trench to the needed location, and leave two pipes capped at the exchanger. A very brief description of three types of geo-thermal wells is listed here. Select the WaterFurnace ® logo to read more about geo-thermal heating and cooling at their web site.

1) Open Loop – Pumping from a shallow or deep well and discharging the water to drain or for use in another application such as irrigation or filling a pond. This is often the most economical method.

2) Vertical Closed Loop – A loop of polyethylene tubing is installed in small diameter bore holes to depths of 100-400' deep. A fluid is continually re-circulated through the tubing which provides energy to an exchanger by means of constant temperature ground water.

3) Pump and Return – Pumping from a shallow or deep well and returning the water to the ground through another shallow or deep well.
